WEYAUWEGA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a fatal Waupaca County head-on collision.
Just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, dispatch received a report of a crash in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 10 near Old Hwy 49 in Weyauwega.
Preliminary investigation revealed a wrong way driver was going west and collided head-on with an eastbound semi-tractor and trailer.
The driver of the wrong way vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi-tractor was uninjured and is cooperating with the investigation.
While on scene of the crash, deputies witnessed another vehicle, disregard traffic control and barricades, continuing into the closed section of road. This vehicle was stopped by deputies and the driver was arrested for numerous violations including reckless endangerment and driving with a revoked license.
The crash remains under investigation.
