What a relief! The Milwaukee Brewers dropped the first two games of their four game set with the Pirates in Pittsburgh before the relief corps came to the rescue Wednesday night in a 3-2 victory. All five runs in a very untidy game were scored in the third inning. William Contreras delivered a run scoring single and then with the bases loaded, Rhys Hoskins got hit by a pitch to bring in a run and Blake Perkins walked with the sacks full for a 3-0 lead. Bryan Reynolds then took starter Bryse Wilson deep for a two run homer in the bottom of the third inning. Wilson, getting another emergency start from the pen made it through five and a third innings allowing the two runs on just three hits. Four relievers would allow just one hit the rest of the way but Joel Payamps got into a jam in the 9th. Back to back errors on pop ups to left field by Willy Adames and Joey Wiemer had runners on the corners but Payamps worked out of trouble by striking out Andrew McCutcheon to end the ballgame. The Brewers are now 15-8 on the year, maintaining a half game lead on the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central race. The Cubs knocked off Houston 4-3 Wednesday night. The series and road trip wraps up at PNC Park Thursday with Freddy Peralta (2-0, 1.90 ERA) on the mound against Mitch Keller. Pre-game coverage begins at 11:00 AM with and 11:35 AM first pitch on WNFL.
