FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Fond du Lac police say a man was arrested after an 11-year-old child called 911, stating his father was intoxicated and injured him.
It started around 12:19 a.m. Monday when the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a 911 call where the line remained open with no voice and then disconnected.
Dispatch attempted to call the number back and it went immediately to voicemail.
Officers then responded to the 600 block of East Scott Street to do a welfare check.
While responding, dispatch received another 911 call, this time from an 11-year-old child stating that his father was intoxicated, started to fight and injured him. As officers arrived they were met by the child outside the residence who was dressed only in shorts and wrapped in a blanket with an observable injury. Police learned that several other children were also inside the residence.
Officers attempted contact and at one point were met with verbal threats made by the suspect through the closed door.
SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams were called to the scene, including the Bear Cat (armored vehicle), K-9 teams, and the Technology Response Group which contains drone and robot resources.
The suspect at one point opened the door to the apartment, exited with one child and locked the door behind him, police say.
Around 3:43 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Three of the children were checked out at the scene and had no injuries. The 11-year-old child was taken to the hospital for a serious but non-life-threatening injury.
