OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Students graduating from Northeast Wisconsin’s largest university this month might want to stay in town — at least, that’s what one study finds.
The Oshkosh-Neenah area is the best place in the U.S. for new college graduates, according to SmartAsset. The study took into account the area’s unemployment rate, average income for bachelor’s degree holders, cost of living for single adults and the percentage of the population in their 20s.
The home of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh has an unemployment rate of .5%, the average bachelor’s degree holder makes $61,016 annually, and 16.1% of the population is between the ages of 20-29, the survey says.
Other college towns round out the top five: Lawrence, Kansas, home of the University of Kansas, is second; College Station-Bryan, Texas, home of Texas A&M University, is third; Grand Forks, North Dakota, home of the Unievrsity of North Dakota, is fourth; and Eau Claire, home of UW-Eau Claire, is fifth.
In Northeast Wisconsin, Sheboygan comes in 12th in the study, Green Bay 25th, Fond du Lac 50th and Appleton 67th.
Other Wisconsin metro areas listed are La Crosse (13th), Madison (17th), Milwaukee (34th). Racine (63rd), Janesville-Beloit (69th) and Wausau (251st).
