FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The suspect in a chase in which drugs were thrown from the vehicle was formally charged Monday.
Jarvis Starks, 28, faces seven counts, including fleeing an officer, possession with intent to deliver cocaine and fentanyl, and recklessly endangering safety.
Starks made an initial appearance Monday in Fond du Lac County court, where a $250,000 cash bond was set. He returns to court Aug. 4 for a preliminary hearing, court records show.
Fond du Lac County sheriff’s deputies released video of the chase, which began just after 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Fond du Lac County sheriff’s officials say one of their deputies then saw the car near Townline Road, north of Fond du Lac. The car again made an unsafe lane change. The deputy also discovered that the license plate was registered to a different vehicle. When the deputy turned on his lights and siren, the car sped off. During the chase, a white bag was thrown from the vehicle and landed in the middle of the interstate. The deputy stopped and picked up the bag, which was determined to contain illegal drugs.
The car continued on into Dodge County. When it reached the area of Quad Graphics near Lomira, the driver lost control and the vehicle went into the ditch. It became disabled and stopped on some railroad tracks west of I-41. The driver got out and ran off. Deputies called in a police dog and eventually found the man hiding in some tall grass. He was arrested.
The chase covered 13.8 miles.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies found a handgun and a digital scale. The bag turned out to have five Ziploc bags of counterfeit oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl, as well as three bags of cocaine.
