GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) is kicking off a ‘newsworthy’ naming contest for its peregrine falcon chicks.
This year, customers will vote to name the chicks after their favorite local news anchors.
For WTAQ, you can vote for:
- Rob Soarin’ in honor of Rob Sussman
- Matt Tweet in honor of Matt Z.
- Rachel Chirpniak in honor of Rachel Charniak
To see all the names from each station and to cast your vote, click here.
The names with the most votes will be given to the falcon chicks that hatch at the Weston Power Plant this spring.
You can vote as many times as you’d like between now and Tuesday, May 5.
WPS and We Energies began installing peregrine falcon nest boxes at power plants in the early 1990s to support the species’ recovery in Wisconsin. Since then, 465 peregrine falcons have hatched at company facilities — representing 20% of all peregrine falcons born in the state.
You can watch livestream cameras of the nesting boxes here.
