The St. Norbert Green Knights captured a share and outright Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference basketball championships on Saturday. The women’s basketball team beat Edgewood College 86-70 behind 18 points from Kaycee Gierczak and 17 from Olivia DeCleene to complete an undefeated NACC season. They finished a perfect 18-0 in conference play and wound up 22-3 in the regular season. They’ll be the number one seed in the NACC conference tournament earning a first round bye this weekend.
The men’s team earned a share of the NACC title by also beating Edgewood on the road, 86-66 as Carter Gebler poured in a career high 24 points. Michael Payant added 23 as SNC shared the regular season title with Wisconsin Lutheran, both owning 14-3 records. The Green Knights finished 17-7 on the season and will be the number two seed in the tournament, hosting a semifinal game as well.
On the ice, the men advanced in the NCHA conference tournament by sweeping their semifinal series with Marian, winning 5-2 on Friday night and 8-2 on Saturday. The Green Knights fell behind 2-0 in the opening six minutes but battled back for a 3-2 lead after two periods. They exploded for five more unanswered goals in the third led by Adam Stacho’s hat trick. St. Norbert improves to 17-8-2 on the year and as the third seed, they’ll travel to number two seed Aurora for a semifinal matchup on Saturday.
The Green Knight women were gunning for the NCHA Kronschnable Cup, given to the regular season champion but needing just one victory on the weekend, stumbled twice to Adrian College on their home ice, falling 1-0 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday. Adrian captured the Cup by handing SNC their only two conference losses of the year. The Knights finished 13-2-1 in conference play, 17-5-3 overall.
