FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fond du Lac man has been fined for illegally registering to vote in the 2020 election.
Lawrence Klug, 76, was among five people charged in February. Prosecutors said the five registered to vote using an address of a UPS Store in the city.
Most of them did not know each other, Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney said.
On Thursday, Klug pleaded no contest to one count of election fraud – falsify voter registration. A count of election fraud – fraud/registration was dismissed.
According to online court records, Klug was fined $1,083.
Toney, a Republican, said in February that investigators do not ask who people voted for when looking into the case, so he does not know for sure how the people voted.
Toney is running for Wisconsin attorney general. He faces former state Rep. Adam Jarchow and attorney Karen Mueller in the Republican primary, with the winner advancing to face Democratic incumbent Josh Kaul in the election this November.
