ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – For the first time since the death of its president, Ashwaubenon’s village board is expected to meet Tuesday night.
The special meeting will allow elected officials to weigh their options after Mike Aubinger passed away March 30 following a brief bout with cancer.
Village Clerk Patrick Moynihan Junior says the two most likely options are to select a trustee to serve the remaining two years of Aubinger’s term or hold a special election next spring.
Moynihan does not anticipate a 2018 election since the position would again be on the ballot the following spring.
This is not unchartered waters for the village.
When a sitting president passed away roughly ten years ago, Moynihan says a trustee was appointed to serve the remainder of the term.
Currently, Trustee Mary Kardoskee is serving as interim president.
Tuesday’s village hall meeting begins at 6:30 pm.
Aubinger served as village president for eight years and was elected to a third term in 2016.
