NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) – A Neenah Police Department program aims to shield residents from the potential dangers of online dealings.
The department has set up an area in its parking lot for people to complete transactions that stem from online websites like Craigslist.
Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson says people do not need to notify police ahead of time and notes the outdoor area is under video surveillance.
Wilkinson believes conducting transactions at the police station “levels the playing field for both parties” as neither is on their home turf, thus reducing the odds that either is scammed.
This is not the first time people are using the police headquarters as a meeting place.
Wilkinson says the station’s lobby has been used for things like child custody exchanges.
