GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Students in the Green Bay School district have begun making paper hearts to send to elementary school students at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, the site of last month’s mass shooting in which 19 students and two teachers were killed.
Todd Lowney is a 2nd grade teacher at Doty Elementary who came up with the idea.
“As a teacher, it’s hard to believe that students would be harmed,” Lowney told WTAQ. “Let alone shot and killed.”
Lowney’s class, in 2012, sent paper snowflakes to students at Sandy Hook Elementary after the mass shooting there. He says the kids have been impacted by the shooting.
“I think they’re scared, they see these things on the media. They hear what their parents tell them,” Lowney said.
Students will be making the hearts to send next Thursday.
