(WNFL)- Joel Stave is the number one quarterback as the Wisconsin football team begins its spring practices. The first one was held yesterday, and coach Paul Chryst has a half dozen signal-callers competing for the starting spot. Chryst made it clear that Stave will practice with the Badgers’ Number-One offense although the coach was not sure how to divvy up the playing time. For Stave, it was a vote of confidence after sharing plays last season with Taylor McEvoy. Chryst, he Badgers’ third coach in the last four seasons said Bart Houston and DJ Gillins would split snaps with the second team. Stave has been inconsistent during his three years in Madison, but he’s coming off a good performance at the Outback Bowl in January. He made a couple of big passes on a 64-yard-drive which sent the game to overtime, where the Badgers beat Auburn by three.
