GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Three people are dead after what Green Bay Police are called “significant” crash near Lombardi Avenue and Bart Starr Way.
The surrounding area was blocked off to traffic for several hours.
Lieutenant Brad Strouf tells WTAQ News that their communication center received the call at exactly 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
“Witnesses that came forward estimate the speed of the striking vehicle at anywhere between 60 and 90 miles per hour prior to the crash,” Strouf says, “Right now there doesn’t seem to be any indications that any brakes were applied. We’re not finding any skid marks on the we are still actively investigating the scene.”
One passenger in the car that was struck was pronounced dead on the scene.
The other two passengers were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated but were both pronounced dead at the hospital.
The striking vehicle hit another vehicle that was turning into the Kwik Trip parking lot, and pushed it a significant distance.

“Three people inside the vehicle that was struck lost their lives as a result of this accident, so we have three fatalities. The driver that was driving the vehicle that did the striking sustained very minor injuries,” Strouf says, “We’re exploring reckless endangerment type of charges involving the death of people, which would be a felony charge. He will be held on that charge.”
The driver, 22-year-old Abdi Ahmed of Green Bay, was taken to the Brown County Jail to await formal charges from the district attorney’s office. They are expected to review the charges Monday morning.
