GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — COVID-19 numbers in Brown County are creeping upwards again after several weeks of slowing.
Brown County Health Department Spokesperson Claire Paprocki says that Brown County’s numbers are growing alongside state numbers.
“We have seen an increase in ages 21 to 29,” Paprocki said Friday. “It is the largest group that is affected in Brown County, I wouldn’t necessarily call it statistically significant.”
People in that age range now have more COVID-19 confirmed infections in Wisconsin than any other age group, according to data from DHS. 21% of the confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin are of people in the 20-29 age range.
While the percentage positive rate in Wisconsin has gone up, the death rate has not. One of the reasons why, Paprocki says, is because people in that age range have a very high survival rate from the virus. COVID-19 has a higher mortality rate in the older population.
Just because Wisconsin has opened up, officials say, doesn’t mean it’s time to ease social distancing measures. Paprocki calls for personal responsibility.
“We’re calling on individuals to take personal accountability and personal responsibility to monitor their own actions,” said Paprocki.
That means frequent hand washing, sanitizing, keeping a six foot distance from others in public,, wearing a face mask, and limiting group gatherings.
