(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – A first-half goal from Joey Buchanan proved to be the difference as the Marquette University men’s soccer team defeated crosstown rival Milwaukee, 1-0, Tuesday night at Valley Fields. The Golden Eagles extended their unbeaten streak to five against the Panthers dating back to 2022.
MU improved to 6-2-1 overall with the victory and earned their third shutout of the season behind a strong defensive effort.
Buchanan netted the match’s lone goal in the 17th minute, finishing a feed from Tomiwa Adewumi for his fourth goal of the season. The Marquette back line and keeper Cameron Simpson made the early goal stand. Simpson stopped all three shots he faced to record the clean sheet, making all three of his saves in the opening half.
Marquette controlled much of the action offensively, outshooting the Panthers 15-9 and holding a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal. Nine of the the Golden Eagles’ shots were on frame, forcing, Milwaukee keeper Carson Pridie to produce eight saves.
The Golden Eagles limited Milwaukee to just four second-half shots and did not allow a shot on goal after half.
