(LEARFIELD) – The Milwaukee Brewers scored big in what became an unexpected bullpen game Wednesday night in New York.
Starter Dustin May left with an injury after facing one batter, but the bullpen kept things in check the rest of the way in an 8-1 victory.
May was hit in the back by a line drive to start the Mets’ half of the first inning.
Robert Gasser, came in from the bullpen, pitched 5 1/3 innings of solid relief and earned the win. Gasser allowed 1 run on 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that Gasser is back to form after a bump in the road last time out.
Murphy talked about Gasser’s emergency duty.
As for Dustin May, Murphy said that x-rays were negative on May’s shoulder.
Sal Frelick had three hits and Brice Turang hit his 17th home run to lead the offense.
The Brewers took a 4-0 lead in the second inning on a run-scoring single by David Hamilton, a 2-run single by Frelick and an RBI-single by Garrett Mitchell.
Turang made it 7-0 with his 3-run home run in the fourth inning.
Christian Yelich added a run with a single in the seventh.
Robert Stock took the loss for the Mets, allowing 7 runs on 10 hits over 4 innings.
Jacob Misiorowski starts the rubber game tonight. Misiorowski is 13-5 with a 1.68 ERA.
The Mets will counter with Sean Manaea who is 4-5 with a 4.31 ERA.
