MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — United Way Fox Cities announced it will ramp up direct financial assistance to households with its tornado relief fund.
So far the United Way says it’s awarded $651,500 to 30 local nonprofits supporting response and recovery efforts.
Those efforts center on immediate recovery efforts, like resource navigation, volunteer coordination, and giving residents access to immediate needs like groceries and a place to stay while their home is damaged.
Nearly 3 weeks out from the tornado, United Way says the community response fund has committed $1 million for its next phase of work. Those funds will be provided to households through nonprofits who directly engage and provide assistance. Depending on a household’s needs, assistance will be given directly to individuals or paid on their behalf to landlords, utilities, contractors, hotels, childcare providers, or other organizations.
The group is seeking applications to become one of the nonprofits who may distribute financial assistance.
United Way Fox Cities is also working with community partners to determine the best approach for long-term recovery needs.
