(WNFL) – The Green Bay Rockers stayed in the playoff chase on Wednesday with a 14-6 win over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at Capital Credit Union Park in Ashwaubenon.
The Rockers are 2 1/2 games behind the Lakeshore Chinooks with 3 games left in the regular season in the hunt for the Northwoods League Great Lakes West Division title.
Lakeshore is 23-11 and in first place with the Wausau Woodchucks in second at 21-12. Green Bay is in third with a record of 20-13.
Against Wisconsin Rapids on Wednesday, the Rockers who led 2-0 after 2 innings scored 4 runs in the third and 4 more in the fifth.
The Rockers who collected 13 hits were lead by Landon Schaefer with 3 hits. Stefan Di Corrado, Ben Fishel and Dawson Schmidt each had 2 hits.
Schmidt and Brayden Pleau each drove in 3 runs from Green Bay. Boone Kirst, Schaefer and Di Corrado each drove in 2 runs.
Owen Ripley got the win for Green Bay. He pitched the first five innings and allowed 4 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks while striking out 2.
Josh Wolken pitched the final 4 innings and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits for the save.
Hezekiah Scott took the loss for Wisconsin Rapids.
The 2 teams meet again tonight with the game starting at 6:35 in Wisconsin Rapids. After tonight’s game, the Rockers will close out with a pair of games in Madison against the Mallards on Friday and Saturday nights.
