(LEARFIELD) – The Milwaukee Brewers scored three times in the second inning and led the rest of the way Wednesday while beating the New York Mets 4-3 at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
Joey Ortiz was the hitting star, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple, and a stolen base.
Trailing 1-0 after a Marcus Simien home run in the top half of the second, Ortiz hit a 2-run triple in the bottom half of the second inning for the Brewers.
Ortiz would then score on a single by Christian Yelich for a 3-1 Brewers’ lead.
The Mets trimmed the Brewers lead to 1 run on Brett Baty’s home run in the fifth inning off of Logan Henderson.
Christian Yelich then tripled in the sixth inning to score Ortiz with what proved to be the winning run.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that Ortiz who is batting .295 in his last 30 games played a complete game.
Ortiz said that being able to help the team is a neat thing.
The Mets would make it 4-3 with a run in the ninth inning.
Logan Henderson earned the win, giving up two runs in five innings, while striking out nine.
Murphy talked about Henderson’s outing.
Trevor Megill earned his 16th save despite giving up the run in the ninth.
Murphy also discussed Megill getting the save.
Megill said that the Brewers who have won 5-of-6 since the All-Star break have played well.
Christian Scott took the loss for the Mets.
Milwaukee is off Thursday, then starts a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies Friday at home.
