GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Water customers in four communities were able to view other customers’ bills online, the Green Bay Water Utility says.
Water utility officials say a customer contacted them Wednesday to report being able to see another customer’s bill by entering their last name.
Online payments are processed through a third-party vendor called Invoice Cloud.
The water utility posted this statement on its website:
Green Bay Water Utility recently learned of a configuration issue with our third-party online bill payment software, Invoice Cloud, that could have allowed someone who entered another customer’s last name to view that customer’s utility bill. As soon as we learned of the issue, we took the affected payment links offline, and the provider has corrected it.
The bill-viewing page did not display credit card, bank account, or other payment information. Information visible on a utility bill includes the customer’s name, service address, account number, and billing and water usage details.
Online bill payment has been restored and is secure. If you have questions or concerns about your account, please call our office.
We take the privacy of our customers’ information seriously, and we apologize for this issue.
Green Bay Water Utility administers billing for Green Bay, Wrightstown, Bellevue, and Ashwaubenon.
