GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Wisconsin Elections Commission next week will review a complaint against Green Bay City Clerk Celestine Jefferys for the first instance of sending out duplicate absentee ballots.
The issue before the WEC relates to the 152 absentee voters who received multiple ballots due to what the city called an ‘administrative error.’ No one was able to vote twice, the city said.
Theresa Sipes and the Republican Party of Wisconsin filed a complaint April 6 with the Wisconsin Elections Commission, seeking an investigation and remedial action. In its reply, the city said since no one voted twice and Green Bay followed the proper procedures, the case should be dismissed. But Sipes and the GOP have urged the WEC to take action.
The agenda for the July 9 meeting references “Discussion and Possible Action Related to the City of Green Bay and the Issuance of Duplicate Ballots.”
Earlier this week, the city announced it inadvertently sent a number of voters from eight different wards – including 11a, 12a, 37a, 44-47 and part of ward 43 – duplicate ballots for the August primary. The city cited a “printing error.”
