(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) DE PERE – St. Norbert College found it tough going offensively and was swept by Lakeland University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader by scores of 3-2 and 8-1 at Miron Construction Field.
The Green Knights (14-16, 6-8 NACC) nursed a one-run lead into the seventh inning of the opener but the Muskies got a one-out triple from Callie Linders to score two runs and ultimately prove the difference. St. Norbert had runners at the corners with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning but couldn’t extend the game.
St. Norbert and Lakeland were locked in a scoreless affair until the Green Knights broke through with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Aiva Champeau’s double brought around Ava Engwall, who had singled. Molly Reichenberger then singled to plate Champeau. The Muskies would score an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 2-1 and set up their seventh-inning rally.
The Green Knights outhit Lakeland 9-6 but stranded eight runners. Engwall and Reichenberger were both 2-for-3. Addison Luebke took the loss in an inning of relief. Amber Johanek started and threw well in a no-decision, allowing two hits and no earned runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched.
In the nightcap, St. Norbert would score in the bottom of the first on a two-out error in the Lakeland infield, but that would be it for the rest of the game. The Muskies scored three in the second, one in the third, two runs in the fourth and one run each in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away, outhitting the Green Knights 13-3.
Engwall doubled for St. Norbert. Alyson Clarke took the loss for the Green Knights in 2 2/3 innings of work.
