FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two women from the Keshena area were arrested after a nearly 11-mile high-speed chase.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says just before 9:30 a.m., a deputy headed north on Interstate 41 near Highway B noticed a vehicle with an equipment violation. The deputy caught up to the vehicle near the Highway 151 off-ramp. As the vehicle turned to head north on 151, the driver did not follow a traffic signal.
The deputy tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver instead turned onto Camelot Drive. The vehicle stopped in the traffic lane of Police Memorial Drive, and the deputy saw the driver and passenger switch seats. Then, the vehicle suddenly sped off.
A chase followed on Martin Avenue and then south on 151. Other deputies became involved and correctly predicted the vehicle was headed back to I-41. As the vehicle entered the interstate, another deputy successfully stopped it using a tire deflation device.
The vehicle eventually went into a ditch along I-41. Both women got out and ran. The initial deputy, who had a police dog, along with another police dog unit, caught the women and arrested them.
Two deputies received minor injuries, and the second driver also sustained minor injuries in the foot chase.
No property was damaged.
Authorities are recommending a 34-year-old woman, who was the second driver, be charged with several counts including felony fleeing and eluding, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, and being party to the crimes of possession with intent to deliver narcotics, possession of THC — the active component of marijuana — and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities are recommending a 42-year-old woman, who was the initial driver, be charged with being party to the crime of fleeing and eluding, two counts of resisting/obstructing an officer causing injury, being a felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, and being party to the crimes of possession with intent to deliver narcotics, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia. She is on probation for disorderly conduct and drug-related convictions.
The suspects’ names were not released.
