233 units opening soon at affordable housing apartment complex in downtown Green Bay

“We’re very excited to be able to provide these units to the community. I know everyone, including our community partners and financial partners, are all very excited to finally see it come to fruition,” TWG Development Senior Development Director Jackson Taylor said.

Tenants are expected to start moving in within the next two weeks. There are 233 units with 46 at market rate, while the rest are designated for affordable-living tenants — meaning they’re meant for people who make about 60% of the area’s median income.

“We believe that every person deserves a safe, sustainable community to live in and call home,” Taylor said.

The project began in 2019, but was put to a halt during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally 100% market-rate units.

TWG Development said the complex is meant for working class people in entry level jobs. A one-bedroom unit is going for $967 per month, while a two-bedroom unit is up for $1,153 per month.

Enthusiasm is building as move-in day inches closer for the long-awaited project.

“You like to see that activity, that vibrancy, people living in your downtown corridors that support your businesses. So it’s something we’ve been working on for a number of years, and we’re really excited to finally see this project open up,” On Broadway Inc. President & CEO Brian Johnson said.

The complex also offers a gym and community space. Additionally, there’s 1,380 square feet of retail space on the first floor. The space could be used for things such as a grocery store, hair salon or even a small office. Right now, TWG is still waiting to find the right fit to fill that space.

The Broadway District believes having a multi-use, mixed-income apartment will help area businesses and make Green Bay even more attractive.

“We really kind of lacked that type of product here in our community… and you know, I think this is gonna be the start of some really great things to come to really continue to help drive that demand,” Johnson said.
