FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Cecil man who sped past a sheriff’s deputy on an interstate shoulder was arrested after a 13-mile chase.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says the chase began just before 10:15 a.m. A deputy was headed south on I-41 near Highway N in the town of Eldorado when the vehicle sped by on the gravel shoulder. The deputy tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver sped off.
The driver continued down the interstate, across both lanes, for several miles. Another sheriff’s deputy and a state trooper set up tire deflation devices near Lost Arrow Road. As the speeding vehicle approached the Highway B exit, the driver lost control and went into the ditch. With the vehicle unable to be driven, the driver got out and ran off. He was arrested after a brief chase and taken to the hospital.
Sheriff’s officials are recommending the 31-year-old man be charged with felony fleeing/eluding and first-degree recklessly endangering safety. His name was not released.
A sheriff’s office patrol car sustained minor damage from tire debris coming off the speeding vehicle. A passerby’s vehicle was damaged by gravel being kicked up by the speeding vehicle.
No one was injured.
