GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK ) – Interim superintendent Vicki Bayer will keep her current role through the end of the 2025-26 school year after the Green Bay Area Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to extend her contract.
As a result of the vote, Bayer will also no longer be classified as the ‘interim’ superintendent.
The district hopes to use the extra year as time to explore new options in hiring a superintendent for the 2026-27 school year and beyond.
This is Bayer’s second time as interim superintendent. She is nine months into the current stint.
“I’m grateful to the Board of Education, to the team, and to the community for having faith in me and my ability to help move the district forward,” Bayer said.
Bayer reiterated that she does not want to keep the superintendent job in the long-term.
“I am a very good number two,” said Bayer. “I’m committed to putting this district in the right position so that when a new superintendent comes in they’ll be well prepared and well positioned.”
She took over for Claude Tiller in March, after he resigned seven months into his tenure as superintendent after making controversial comments on an Atlanta radio show.
Bayer is confident that the district will find a new superintendent.
“I think it has to be somebody that’s committed to our students and to our community overall, that they’re competent and understand academics and the role of operations, and that person’s out there,” she said.
