GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A lazy river, mini-golf course, jumping pillow, splashpad, pedal track, and other improvements could be coming to Green Bay’s Joannes Aquatic Center, under a $9.5 million plan a city council committee will review this week.
The Joannes Aquatic Center, 1430 E. Walnut Street, is located across the street from East High School. The current facility opened in 1996, with the former pool turned into a skate park.
A power point presentation labeled “Joannes Aquatic Center Proposed Masterplan” includes eight pages of images of what the revised facility could look like. It also includes an itemized list of costs. Among the elements:
Surf rider, $2.2 million
Splashpad, $1.3 million
Lazy river, $1 million
Mini golf course $450,000
Restroom building, $350,000
Water play features, $250,000
Drop slide, $150,000
Hammock garden, $50,000
Pedal track (with 10 carts), $35,000
Jumping pillow, $25,000
Aquazip, $25,000
No funding method is detailed.
The Parks Committee meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday in room 207 of City Hall, 100 N. Jefferson Street.
