GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Work is underway to transform a downtown Green Bay parking lot into an eight-story apartment building.
The developer of the project will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday at the site of the former Adams Street parking lot.
The 268-unit luxury apartment building will take close to two years to complete.
In addition to removing the parking lot, a Green Bay Packers landmark within the Adams Street lot had to be moved as well.
The city approved spending $109,701 to move the Packers Heritage Trail monument to an undermined location.
The Packers Heritage Plaza features the statues of Paul Hornung, Johnny “Blood” (McNally), Bart Starr and team co-founder George Whitney Calhoun, among others. The Plaza also includes a large recognition wall and green space enhancements. It opened in 2013.
