(WTAQ-WLUK) — Two communities in Brown County are being recognized for their high voter turnout in last week’s election.
The village of Allouez and the town of Wrightstown were awarded trophies Thursday for winning the Project VOTE of Brown County, WI Voter Challenge.
Officials say these municipalities recorded the highest voter turnout percentages in their respective categories for the Nov. 5 election.
The town of Wrightstown’s turnout of 92.63% of registered voters was the highest among the communities in the “Green Division” which includes Brown County municipalities with populations under 10,000.
Meanwhile, 91.4% of registered voters in Allouez was the best in the “Gold Division” which is made up of municipalities in Brown County with populations over 10,000.
In all, 12 municipalities in the Green Division reported registered voter turnout above 90%, while five of Brown County’s larger municipalities topped 90%.
It marks the fourth consecutive Voter Challenge win, and eighth overall, for Allouez and the first for the town of Wrightstown.
Donna Martzahl, town of Wrightstown clerk, says she was impressed the town exceeded 90%.
“I’ve noticed a big increase in voters you know, in the last few years. I think people are realizing they need to get out and they need to let the establishment know what they want so there has been an increase,” she said.
Project VOTE of Brown County holds its Voter Challenge each election to increase informed voter turnout throughout the county.
