GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Applications are being accepted for this fall’s Community Academy, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the Green Bay Police Department’s operations.
Throughout the eight-week interactive course, participants will learn about GBPD’s specialty divisions, including the Marine Unit, Dive Team, K9, and SWAT. They will also have the chance to meet with law enforcement officers and the forensic team, as well as take part in hands-on skills training and demonstrations, such as lifting fingerprints.
The program will run 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays from Sept. 11 to Oct. 30. The first session will take place at Metro Boat Launch (102 Bay Beach Road) and the remainder of the course will be held at GBPD (307 S. Adams Street).
The Community Academy is open to residents from Brown County and surrounding areas, although priority registration will be given to applicants from the city of Green Bay and first-time attendees.
Class size will be capped at 30 students. Registrants are asked to commit to attending each week. There is no cost to participate.

A criminal background check will be run on each applicant. Anyone with a felony conviction record will not be eligible to attend. Applicants under the age of 18 will need the signature of a parent or guardian in order to participate.
