GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A welfare check for a suicidal individual prompted a full closure of I-43 in the area of the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge.
At approximately 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, officers with the Green Bay Police Department were dispatched to the bridge for a welfare check. The person was brought to safety around 5:30 p.m. GBPD said the individual was not injured.
I-43 was shut down between Atkinson Drive and Webster Avenue, including the Leo Frigo, but reopened to traffic at 6 p.m.
GBPD said in a news release, “We want to remind the community that help is always available through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Anyone who is struggling or concerned about someone else can call or text 988 for free, confidential support 24/7. Additional online resources are available at suicidepreventionlifeline.org.”
