APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A task force created to tackle the housing shortage in Appleton shared its findings Wednesday afternoon.
Officials say they’re creating ways to make the process for nonprofits and for-profit developers to build more homes and housing units.
The Housing Development Policy Task Force was created last year. Those involved include real estate agents, home builders, the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce and Habitat for Humanity.
“Over the course of about five months, the task force worked with an outside consultant and worked through a process where they looked at the data, they looked at the information, and they were hearing what the community was saying and organized a series of 17 recommendations into five themes.” said Kara Homan, Appleton Community and Economic Development Director.
The themes include acknowledging the need for housing development and fostering the steps needed to encourage community cooperation with housing investment.
Studies in 2023 showed the Fox Valley will need to add around 18,000 new residential units by 2030 to keep up with demand.
