FOX CROSSING, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Rent.Fun, a growing kayak rental service, has made it’s way to the Fox Valley.
“It’s essentially a kayak share program where you don’t have to buy your own kayak to get on the water.” said Amanda Geiser, Director of Parks and Rec for the Village of Fox Crossing. “You can come rent it, try it out, 20 dollars for the first two hours and then 10 dollars for each additional hour.”
The process is as easy as this.
“It’s very simple, you just really need to have a smartphone, download the app, and then when you get here, you scan,” Geiser demonstrated. “On the kayak rental there’s a QR code so you scan which one you want, and it unlocks it, and away you go.”
Make sure to download the Rent.Fun app before your visit.
The new kayak rental stations in the Valley are a part of a $70,000 grant from the Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau in an effort to increase public access to the water.
The Tourism Development Grant program aims to enhance tourism and visitor experiences throughout the Fox Cities.
“The goal is just to get people on the water,” Geiser said.” We have Fritse park here, we have the launch, and then we do have a quiet water launch. But it’s really just to give people an opportunity to get on the water where they normally wouldn’t have had that opportunity.”
Five locations were given money to develop the stations, including Herb and Dolly Smith Park in Neenah and Fritse Park in Fox Crossing.
Fritse Park is working to increase accessibility by as early as next week.
“We are actually going to be putting in a universally accessible kayak launch this week, that will give all abilities the access to the kayaks,” Geiser said. “It’s going to be a ramping system and a dock that will let – if you’re in a wheelchair you can easily get into the kayak without, you know, getting wet or having any issue.”
The kayak stations are open for 2 hour rentals from early spring until fall, when the weather starts to turn for the winter.
