FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says it has been a busy month for deputies.
In a post on Facebook, the sheriff’s office says during a traffic stop on June 4, a passenger in the car was arrested after deputies discovered they had an active warrant. The passenger notified police they had a weapon, and officers found a loaded handgun, a loaded magazine as well as controlled substances in their pocket.
In the car, deputies say there were seven children between the ages of 11 months old and 12 years old.
“A 2 and 1-year-old were observed not to be using any type of safety restraint,” the post adds.
After searching the car, deputies also found a loaded concealed short-barreled rifle.
“The passenger was taken into custody on the arrest warrant and new charges of Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of THC. The driver was issued citations for violation of child safety restraints,” the post says.
The sheriff’s office says 10 days later, deputies conducted a traffic stop when the driver told deputies he had no valid license.
“While the deputy was conducting his investigation, he was able to detect the odor of a controlled substance coming from the vehicle,” the post continues. “The deputy learned the driver was revoked as a result of a previous OWI conviction and that he had an active arrest warrant through Fond du Lac County for failure to appear on previous controlled substance charges and Operating after Revocation.”
Officials say there were four teens in the car during the traffic stop.
Deputies learned the driver was also out on bond for a 2020 case involving possession of controlled substances, resisting or obstructing an officer, felony bail jumping, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
After performing a search of the car, deputies say they found THC and 5 grams of suspected fentanyl. They also found 19 grams of cocaine concealed on the man while being transported to the Fond du Lac County jail.
The post continues by saying, “In both these cases, minor children had unobstructed access to these dangerous items. Both these unfortunate incidents were forwarded to the Fond du Lac County Child Abuse & Child Welfare Access Services Unit.”
