KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Kaukauna goats are back at 1000 Islands Environmental Center in Kaukauna working away to control invasive species.
On June 4 Kaukauna Mayor Tony Penterman declared June “Kaukauna Invasive Species Control Month” recognizing the work at 1000 Islands Conservancy Zone.
The work focuses on removing invasive plant species with minimal or no herbicide usage.
The goats eat buckthorn which helps better manage the health of the forest habitat. Mulberry Lane Farms in Hilbert donates the goats and has volunteers serve as “Goat Watchers” when they’re on site.
The goats are at the site for two weeks twice every year; you have until Sunday to see them. 1000 Islands is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
