WRIGHTSTOWN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Officials in Wrightstown are reminding people not to leave an oven in self-cleaning mode unattended after an incident Wednesday at an apartment complex.
Around 10:25 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the 600 block of County Road U in Wrightstown for a possible structure fire, with smoke and the “smell of burning plastic in the hallway.”
Responding to the scene was the Wrightstown Fire Department, the Greenleaf Volunteer Fire Department, County Rescue, Wrightstown First Responders and the Wrightstown Police Department.
When crews arrived, “nothing was showing” — however, upon investigation, they discovered an apartment full of smoke with alarms sounding. Crews conducted ventilation of the structure to remove smoke from the building. No one was injured.
Officials say the incident was spurred by the apartment’s resident setting their stove to self-clean, then leaving the residence.
The Wrightstown Fire Department issued this reminder to the public:
Wrightstown Fire would like this to serve as a reminder that if you are going to utilize the self clean feature on your stove, PLEASE stay at the residence until the stove is done cleaning. This feature gets the stove very hot and you never know if something will happen if you were to leave.
