HOBART, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Hobart Village Board postponed a vote Tuesday on plans to turn one of Brown County’s largest residential homes into a substance abuse recovery center.
Not far from Highway 29’s Hillcrest Road exit, the 16,392-square-foot home is listed for sale at $3.49 million. It has sat mostly empty since being built 20 years ago.
Summit Behavioral Health, a Tennessee-based health provider, wants a conditional use permit to turn the mansion into Green Bay Recovery Center — a 48-bed recovery facility for drug and alcohol addicts that voluntarily want to get better.
The same company owns and operates Willow Creek Behavioral Health on Green Bay’s far east side.
However, the project has faced opposition from residents who are concerned about safety, declining property values and privacy.
Despite more than three hours of public comment during Tuesday’s meeting, the Board still wasn’t able to hear from everyone. Another public comment meeting is set for July 2 at Fire Station One. The Board may hold a vote at that time.
