MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) — The City of Menasha Police Department has created a Functional Needs Registry.
The Functional Needs Registry is available for all residents requiring functional needs resulting from a physical, emotional, or a medical condition such as dementia, autism, bipolar disorder, etc.
“If we have a heads-up on what somebody’s needs are, that will help us better approach them and better get to the root of any issues,” said Lieutenant Matt Spiegel.
A form can be filled out that helps inform officers about the individual; that information is tied to the departments confidential record management system.
“When an officer gets dispatched to an incident; if we know who that person is, we get a flag that allows us to take a look at that information prior to getting on scene.” said Spiegel.
The form asks for basic information on the person, and also information regarding the persons favorite topics to discuss, favorite calming objects/toys, how to best communicate with them, etc.
