MADISON, Wis.– Wisconsin tart cherry growers have until June 15, 2024 to submit their vote to elect two new members to the five-member Wisconsin Cherry Board.
No nominations were received by the original March 29, 2024 nomination period deadline or by the April 19, 2024 extended deadline. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is proceeding with the election with no nominated candidates listed on the ballot. Eligible growers are encouraged to write in the names of two affected cherry growers to serve on the board.
DATCP mailed ballots to cherry producers the week of May 10, 2024. Producers with questions or who have not received a ballot by May 20 can contact DATCP’s Market Orders Program at DATCPMarketOrders@wisconsin.
The elected producers will serve three-year terms beginning July 1, 2024 and ending June 30, 2027.
About the Wisconsin Cherry Board
The Wisconsin Cherry Board is composed of five at-large members that are responsible for administering Wisconsin’s Cherry Marketing Order. The board oversees the collection and use of approximately $55,000 in assessment fees paid by Wisconsin cherry growers. This funding is used to support the cherry industry through research, education, and promotion of Wisconsin-grown cherries.
