APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Gene Meyer’s trial for allegedly killing Betty Rolf in 1988 is getting underway this morning.
Meyer, 68, is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree sexual assault for the death of Rolf. Rolf’s body was found Nov. 7, 1988, in Grand Chute, just outside the Appleton city limits. Meyer was charged in December 2022 after DNA from the scene matched evidence taken from Meyer’s truck.
The attorneys were handling last-minute motions this morning, and then jury selection is expected to begin about 9 a.m. A jury of 15 people is expected to be seated, with three alternates designated before deliberations begin.
The trial is scheduled for two weeks.
