It was a death by a thousand cuts for the Milwaukee Brewers Monday night. Back after a successful trip even with a Sunday loss in Baltimore, the Brewers welcomed the San Diego Padres to open a short, three game homestand at American Family Field, only to drop a second straight game. The Padres beat the Crew 7-3. Milwaukee started fast with Willy Adames delivering an RBI single in the bottom of the first against San Diego starter Joe Musgrove. Rookie Jackson Chourio then launched his third home of the season, a two run shot in the second to give the Brewers a 3-0 cushion for starter Joe Ross. The Padres finally got on the board with a run but then exploded for 6 runs in the 5th. The rally was accomplished with a handful of singles, seeing eye ground balls that got through or infield hits beaten out. Complicating matters and keeping the traffic moving were two mistakes from catcher William Contreras who gave up a passed ball and got called for catcher interference. Ross lasted four and two thirds innings, giving up 6 earned runs on 9 hits. Manager Pat Murphy said the only real mistake Ross made in the big inning was a pitch clock violation, everyone had a hand in letting the early lead get away. The Brewers drop to 10-5 on the season, still leading the NL Central and they’ll send Wade Miley to the hill in game two of the series while the Padres will counter with Dylan Cease. Pre-game coverage gets underway at 6:05 PM with a 6:40 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
