GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A person taken to the hospital after exchanging gunfire with a Green Bay police officer has died.
Just before 1 p.m. Friday, police received a report of a disturbance between two vehicles, possibly involving a weapon.
Officers were dispatched to the area and when one officer encountered a vehicle matching the description of the report, gunfire was exchanged in the 3100 block of Open Gate Trail near West Mason Street.
The person was struck by gunfire and taken to a hospital where they later died. The officer was not injured.
Green Bay police chief, Chris Davis said, “This is very early in what will undoubtedly be a very long, very detailed investigation.”
Police stayed on scene for an extended period of time.
DCI is now leading the investigation into the shooting.
