APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – One person was arrested and taken to the hospital after witnesses said the person was threatening people with an edged weapon.
Appleton Police say they received multiple reports just before 5 pm Saturday of someone on a bicycle in the area of N. Richmond Street and W. Franklin Street who was showing the weapon and threatening people passing by.
The individual reached toward their waistband when police made contact with them, but they were quickly subdued by officers and arrested, according to police.
The weapon was located on the person and secured.
Police say emergency medical services were called due to the individual’s erratic behavior and attempts to self-harm while in custody.
The person was taken to the hospital for treatment and will be referred to the district attorney’s office for several criminal charges, according to authorities.
