GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Students at Green Bay East High School are making a difference for classmates and families in need in the East community.
Members of the school’s Student Council planned a drive-up, drop-off food drive benefiting the Eats for East Pantry. During the two-day initiative, students are collecting any non-perishable, non-expired food items to help struggling families.
“It’s nice knowing that those who don’t have access to food will be able to have it available to them and to know that our school has these resources that will help students in need,” said Jennifer Duartecastillo, a senior at East High School and the Student Council vice president.
Duartecastillo said the food drive was planned just before the holiday season because many students may not have enough food during winter break without the meals provided during the school day.
The second and final day of the Eats for East food drive will take place Thursday from 3:30 to 6 p.m. in front of the main office doors at East High School.
The pantry welcomes all donations, but is in “desperate need” of the following items:
- Granola bars, breakfast bars, Pop Tarts
- Peanut butter, jelly, jam
- Breakfast cereal, pancake mix, syrup
- Boxes of instant oatmeal packets
- Spaghetti noodles and sauce
- Canned chicken and tuna
- Hamburger/chicken/tuna helper
- Ramen noodles
- Canned ravioli with pop-top
- Canned soups with pull-tops
- Mac and cheese, elbow macaroni
- Cooking oil
- 4-pound sugar bags
