DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Shawano County veteran who served in World War II was honored with posthumous medals on Monday.
Rep. Mike Gallagher presented the family of Albert Spiegel with five “well-deserved and long overdue medals in recognition of his exceptional record of service.”
Spiegel, a native of Tigerton, served in the United States Army during the Second World War, fighting in the European Theater of Operations for three and a half years.
He eventually attained the rank of Master Sergeant, leading combat service support teams that helped Allied soldiers secure important victories across Europe during the war.
Spiegel was honorably discharged in 1945. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 99.
