LITTLE SUAMICO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A woman died in an Oconto County construction zone crash.
Crews responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 41/141 and County Highway S in the town of Little Suamico around 4:47 p.m. Wednesday.
Officials say an SUV, driven by a 70-year-old Green Bay man, was traveling south on U.S. Highway 41 at a high rate of speed and rear ended a car which had been slowed to a stop due to merging traffic in a construction zone. The impact of the crash pushed both vehicles into the median barrier.
The car was driven by a 47-year-old Appleton man.
In addition to the driver, the SUV had three passengers: a 78-year-old woman, a 52-year-old woman, and a 40-year-old woman.
The 78-year-old passenger of the SUV received life-threatening injuries and was flown to the hospital. The woman later died at the hospital from her injuries.
No one else was hurt.
The investigation into the crash remains open.
