APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — Trinity Lutheran Church has announced the launch of its Hope and Help Together Task force to support newcomers to the Fox Cities.
This collaborative endeavor aims to connect and empower the Fox Cities community in ways that ensure new neighbors, newcomers with refugee, and other immigrant backgrounds, thrive. In its beginning phases; so far the task force has been working with members of the Congolese community.
Work to establish the Task force got underway in late 2022, and the project is in its early stages of formation.
Executive director, Hilary Haskell, says they’re currently gathering information and are looking for where some of the newcomers are located.
“Then we will do a combination of creating a coordination effort to meet immediate needs,” said Haskell “As well as put on some education events.”
Haskell explained some of those events will cover driving laws, how to access legal services, and more.
Trinity Lutheran Church gave $200,000 to the task force, which was generated mostly from proceeds from the sale of the congregation’s former building and land to local developers.
The task force will enhance efforts across faith traditions, non-profit organizations, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and communities to better coordinate efforts to foster belonging with newcomers in the Fox Cities.
