APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Outagamie County’s newly submitted budget is one of the lowest tax levy rates in the state.
County Executive Tom Nelson submitted his 2023 executive budget to the county board Tuesday.
The proposal features a declining tax rate ( -8.9%) for the eighth year in the row, a $21.1 million capital project budget, and a levy adjustment (+1.97%) that is less than 29% of the rate of inflation, year over year (8.26%).
“Once again our department heads and workers have delivered,” Nelson said. “We are fortunate to have a high-quality work force that delivers important public services in a timely and efficient manner. That is the reason why we are able to deliver strong budgets time and again.”
Some programmatic highlights of the budget include:
Increases in internal health and human services budgets for children youth and families (9%) and youth and family services (14.7%) which reflects increased post-pandemic demands for child protection and family support services
Value-added investments from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) across most departments
New on-site clinic to give employees quick access to quality medical care and to control health care costs
The county board finance committee will conduct meetings over the next month to make any adjustments to the budget and will deliver the proposal to the full board for approval on Nov. 6.
