NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Fox Cities Marathon happened Sunday morning featuring full, half, and relay marathons.
Over 3,000 walkers and runners took part.
Full marathon first place female winner Anne Schreiber came in with an approximate time of 3 hours and 20 minutes.
“I was so happy, I was worried the second place female was right behind me so I had to really push at the end but I am glad I got first,” says Schreiber.
Seth Massot came in first for the men, with an approximate time of 2 hours and 24 minutes.
“The goal today was to come out, have fun to learn a little bit more about how to race something like this. Really happy with how it went,” says Massot.
Schreiber says the community support helped her push through.
“Just feel loved, it was nice having your name on the bib, all these people were saying my name and I was like I don’t know who you are but this is nice,” says Schreiber.
Schreiber’s mom ran in the second ever Fox Cities Marathon and is proud to see her daughter running in her footsteps.
“Of course you love your kids to follow you, I’m glad she’s got the speed that I didn’t feel like I had. But she put the time and the energy in,” says Lori Schreiber.
Massot adds he appreciated having support from everyone, but one person stands out.
“My wife Katy was out at a couple spots on the course, I couldn’t do this without her.”
“He wakes up really early, like 5:15 in the morning and then he puts in a lot of hours he does about 80 miles a week,” says Katy Massot.
Katy was one of many proud family members cheering for runners on Sunday.
Mark Kjentvet watched his daughter complete her first marathon.
“I have to be the one interviewed because my wife is crying. She’s so happy. My daughter wanted to finish in under four hours. This was her first one and she got it in with 7 minutes to spare so we are very proud of her.”
Both of the first place marathon winners had the same plan in mind for after the race.
“Drink..drink a beer probably,” says Schreiber.
“I am going to go sit down, then probably going to go find a beer, and then just put my feet up,” says Massot.
This was the 31st running of the Fox Cities Marathon.
There were participants from 25 different states as well as Canada.
