BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Thousands will soon be making their way to Green Bay for various weekend events, including the Green Bay Packers 2022 home opener.
“It’s great to be featured at home on Sunday night having football fans all over the nation tuning in, and here at the stadium itself, we know there will be a lot of energy and excitement,” Packers Director of Public Affairs Aaron Popkey said.
And with country star Luke Combs also set to make his way to northeast Wisconsin, Green Bay police are preparing for larger than usual crowds.
“We have extra officers — along with Ashwaubenon, Brown County. We have officers working overtime assignments in that area for security for these events,” Green Bay Police Lt. Jeff Brester said.
Combs’ shows won’t match the capacity of the game, but they’ll still attract many to Green Bay, according to PMI Entertainment Group Senior Manager of Corporate Communications Terry Charles.
“These two concerts Friday and Saturday will be pushing about 10,000, and that’s about as much as we get.”
This isn’t the first time the Resch has put on shows the same time as events at Lambeau. Charles says the number of people makes for a good traffic reminder.
“They just need to be aware of parking. Lambeau field will be available for parking for both events. There will be a lot of people leaving and arriving probably about the same time, so I would just advise guests as to take their time, get here early for the Luke Combs concert.”
Many of the events lead up to the Packers home opener. Popkey said some changes are being made to address large numbers of people.
“We’ve got a more concentrated effort on coordinating — and choreographing if you will — the street crossings. Certainly, know which gate you’re headed to at the stadium, and as you’re crossing into the stadium, watch for cues and direction from public safety officers.
Brester has advice for all participants of the weekend events.
“Just have some patience. Like I said — especially for the game — the traffic patterns are all the same, nothing’s changed. We just have more signs.”
